MY VIEW ON COLOMBIAN IDIOSYNCRASY, A DEEP SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ANALYSIS

This book is a critical examination of Colombia and the cultural patterns that have shaped its political and social life. Rather than being driven by nostalgia or resentment, it is motivated by the need to rigorously analyze a reality that is often explained through historical excuses or self-indulgent narratives. I examine the country’s idiosyncrasies as the result of its prolonged coexistence with violence, informality, and institutional weakness. I analyze the functional relationship between citizens and the state, corruption as a normalized practice, religion as a moral control structure, and fragmented power as a permanent condition rather than an anomaly. This is not a denunciatory or propagandistic book. Nor does it propose quick fixes. Its purpose is to identify the cultural mechanisms that perpetuate conflict, mistrust, and resignation and demonstrate how these mechanisms are reproduced by the elites and the society that suffers from and sustains them. I write from the conviction that no political or social change is possible without an honest examination of the collective behaviors that block it. Thinking about Colombia without myths or justifications is not pessimistic, but rather a prerequisite for understanding the country.
